Design Approach We are immersed in every phase of our work from design, through cutting, welding, finishing, planting and training. We have even designed special shipping cradles for our pieces to assure they reach their final location in perfect condition. We design our topiary frames, bases, and garden art using sophisticated 3D software. The computer files are translated into proprietary instructions for our cutting system. Generally, all metal art components are welded together. This includes the interface between the topiary frame and its base surrounding the root balls. The base extends below grade, or into a plant container yielding stability and proper alignment. Occasionally, sections are bolted or sleeved together. The Coburn Topiary Difference. There is an important difference between what we offer our clients and what is generally available from other sources. For example, other designers may fabricate planes within topiary frames using grids of materials composed of welded rod or pre-welded mesh. Because we are artists, as well as craftsmen using the latest technology, we create more graceful lines. In fact, our topiary frames are of such sculptural quality that they can stand alone, even without planting. The topiary's metalwork can be artistically themed.
